    Good blog you have here!

Friends ask me (even my brother asked recently): Why Twitter? I've tried many social networking sites including Facebook and Yuwie! Nothing seems to come close to Twitter now!

    Hi Kelly,

    Thanks.

Yes Twitter is a great social media feed, but as mentioned above its a rapid interface and its sometimes hard not to get taken with the current.

But for gaining opinion, reviewing hot topics and for creating discourse around a subject matter its very good.

I believe at the moment the major players (Facebook, friendsfeed, Twitter, Flickr) in the Social Media market are identifying their niche areas and trying to focus on the service that they are most recognised for.

In Twitter's case its rapid brief discussion and URL sharing, personally I think Facebook fills a slightly different market.

    Thanks for the comment!

I really enjoyed all the ideas you presented in this post. I find the <friend-follow> issues particular interresting because so many people seem to just add 2000 users immediately, in order to get a high number of <followers> and because so many people do automatic acceptance they do get at least a proportion of those numbers back..

I check every person who adds me, and if they are typical 'number cruncher' then I do not add them. For me someone who is more interested in numbers is just not the connection I want to make.

Friends not followers is my mantra.

As I was trying to convey in the post, following for the sake of following isn't how I see myself using Twitter.

Twitter has a great value in conversation and perspective exchanges, there is also however a whole ream sales tweets and just nonsense being pushed out there.

We all except that for those that need it there is also a facility to use large numbers of followers to leverage a message, but currently this is not of interest to me.

Thanks for your comment Christine, I've add your perspective to my Twitter mix.
